It may be hard to believe that a single workshop series can serve the
needs of every artist, whether established with years of experience
under their easel, an instructor of art to public or private pupils, an
art student, a self-taught Sunday painter, or someone who would just
like to begin the journey. But Mel Jacobson, potter, painter, writer
and recognized art educator, plans to deliver such a series December 15,
16 and 17 at Art Works at Litchfield Exchange, Pawleys Island, SC.

Mel describes the workshop as a "demo/painting/lecture," during which he
completes six large paintings, actually doing them simultaneously, while
lecturing on drawing, composition, looking and seeing ,color, and other
painting techniques. Students will journal the workshop, doing small
drawings and paintings as he works. Students will not have to exhibit
work or encounter critique.

This intensive workshop will provide challenges and inspiration to
beginning and experienced artists, as well as providing art teachers
with exciting new approaches to instruction. Mel will ask for
suggestions of color, change and composition as he works. The students
can react to the changes and ask for clarifications as to "why" he does
what he does. The process might be compared to reading a story you are
composing and having the audience help you along; in this case, the
students almost climb into the paintings with the teacher.

The three session workshop comprising nine hours of instruction will be
offered Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday, December 15-17, from 9:30 a.m. to
12:30 p.m. and again from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Once registered,
students may attend morning or evening sessions, or mix them to
accommodate their work and holiday commitments. Students will need a
blank page book or drawing tablet. Advanced students should bring a
simple paint set and pencils; beginners will just use pencils. The fee
is $75.00 for the series.

For registration or more information, contact Linda Ketron at Art Works

attractions, if needed.

Hope to see you there,
