throwing with laguna b-3 brown

Like others if I am using B-3 brown to make something of any size, I will
open the clay up by wedging some sand into the body. I limit the amount of
water used and concentrate at first on getting the clay to move fluidly. B-3
brown tends to be a tad sluggish and resistant to movement. Without
encouragement it just dissolves into muck on the wheel. I throw my forms by
following each upward pull by a downward movement to ensure this clay
continues its fluid movement. Ribbing freezes the final shape and prevents
the form from sinking. Because of the high percentage of fluxes in this
clay, I am also careful not to fire above cone 5 or slumping occurs.
