Hi Gang,
I am trying to figure out how to fire ladles so that they can be glazed
all around. I have seen the 'ladle holder/stilts' in Axners cat.
Has anyone used this? Any other suggestions?
Thanks in advance,
Ron

I fire ladles. I bought some regular 3 prong stilts and they work great
everytime.

I used to pull the handles flat with a long loop on the far end from the cup.
I waxed two spots on the handles and sat the ladle on those for firing.

potters from the SW. Great show! Woven by grandmothers was also beatiful as
was lots of other treats in DC.

Hi ya Gang,
Back from big baby head christmas vacation. I just finished a cone 10
gas red. firing. I had asked about ladle firing before and got a couple
responses. I had this ladle propped up just sooo! and BANG!!! over it
went.
I called a local supply house about kiln stilts but they said they don't
fire that high. True?
Does anyone have some other alternatives for high fire ladle firing
besides leaving off the glaze?
Thanks,
Ron

You could make a firing jig out of soft brick and straight element
wire. You stick the wire into the brick in a tripod formation and the
ladle sit on the wire points. After firing you sand the rough pin points
off like they do for most glazes china.

Ron--There are some really nice wooden ladles for sale out there! Try
Johnathans Spoons in Pennsylvania, for example.
