I am itching to use my little weed-burner-fired raku kiln to try some
soda experiments. It was a free carcass, and I don't think I have
anythig to lose, but if I impregnate it with soda and it doesn't work,
I've probably screwed it up as a raku kiln forever.
I am thinking about putting a layer of red brick outside of the metal
jacket to retain heat. I have gotten it to ^5 before without much
trouble and have never really tried to go higher, but I suspect I could.
There's a square hole in the top of the lid, and I use a square terra
cotta pipe for a chimney.
Has anybody done this successfully? Is it even worth trying?
P.S. That last link to my Jeff didn't work, Try this:

Hi Kelly,
I have had fired electric kiln shells with a marc ward raku burner to
cone 10 easily. I have hit cone 10 in as little as an hour to an hour
and a half. The main difference between that kind of firing and
firing in a more traditional cone 10 kiln is that the raku shell cools
quite quickly. If you need some slow cooling in your soda firing, try
relighting the burner at around 1800 for a little while.
