Thanks for all the kind words, Mel. I am honored. When I was still living
in Northern California, working as a potter, doing all my own car repairs
and even rebuilding some antique gas engines and other machinery, I had
rolls of brass shim stock on the shelf - ranging from .001 to .010. I don't
do much of that kind of work anymore, but if I had the need, I expect that I
would use a pop can.

if my motorcycle handle bars got loose, i would
use a pop can shim, vince would use brass, and
wait a week to order the proper part.

i respect that.
knowledge of tools and materials are one of
vince's strengths. he never takes tools and
building materials lightly.

i respect that.

i tend to look at things with a...`how can i use that
in a new and different way?` often do.

if i wanted advice on tools of any kind, i would
ask vince. he would have the proper answer.
i respect that.

it is the standard of human differences...we all
have a different take on things...and then we move
on, doing things our own way.

like for example:
what is cone ten?
slightly bent?
half way down?
touching the shelf?
melted?
up to you to decide.

like using expanded metal under a kiln. why?
to give an air space. heat sink, breather.
and, it is very flat...and does not degrade.
so, why not? it works. why put a kiln on
bathroom wall board? i don't think it works
as well. my take.

cone ten for me is cone 11 at 3 o'clock.

Mel we can call you our ''McIver'', the fellow who used his creative
approach to make things work using unconventional stuff to solve his problems.
