did you know 30% of the usa corn is made for the gas tank!

Some of the recent comments about food and energy production need further
investigation. While there are many articles in the press and many books on
the subject most of the data comes from the USDA. I have provided some links
to USDA sites that have not only data, but also links for further
investigation. There are lots of myths flying around about where we are and
where we are going with biofuels and whether the current food shortages are
caused by conversion of grains to fuel and conversion of grains to pet food.
These sites should provide plenty to read and to think about.

With interest in renewable energy sources intensifying, the ERS online

retail food prices, and impacts of bioenergy development on the food/farm
sector.

This is a joke my friends like to pull on me since I'm the random facts type

Thank you for citing your sources.

12% of the world wide corn production is for ethanol.

Just like our beef, we should feed our cars or cows stuff
that people could eat more efficiently. Grass is better for steer
and cellulose for ethanol. The monocultures depend upon depleting
the ground water and top soil.

The quotes in my e-mail came from others. I didn't do any research to check
on their validity. I only thought to provide sources for anyone to use and
create their own opinion from the data. One thing I know is that this is a
highly politicized subject and one shouldn't trust much of anything without
verification.

"12% of the world wide corn production is for ethanol."

Was that corn suitable for food?
Much of the corn harvested is not suitable for human consumption.
How much?
Why?
Would it have been produced if the price wasn't driven by the ethanol
market?
