The walls to the kiln are up...and we dry stacked the flue to make
sure that we knew how it went together...
There's a bucket of k-bond mortar here, intended for the flue. I
looked around on the thermal ceramics site for some suggestion on the
technique used to bond IFB, but the information that I found was
pretty sketchy.
To trowel? to dip? do the bricks need to be dampened with water to
assure a good bond?
The kiln itself is all dry-stacked and secured with angle iron and
tie rods...It's the mortaring of the flue that I'm unclear about.
I bet there's something in Vince's book about this...Where did I put it?
There's something about everything clay in that book. My favorite reference.
But while I'm locating my copy...any wisdom about IFB and K-bond
mortar? (Like really basic How-to -- Don't get bogged down,
philosophers...I have the book, and I will find it...but in the
meantime...) ;-)

Well if you trowel it on, you will need to just put about a 1/8" thickness
or you can thin the mortar down just a bit and dip them. Both methods will
work great for you
