Hi folks,

2009 will be my first NCECA - I am super excited! It's practically in my
back yard (well, 140 miles away but that's close).

I wanted to let you know about another downtown Phoenix hotel that you might
be interested in. This is an old hotel, built in 1928, but very well kept
and they've kept the history. I stayed there last year while attending a
conference. They have a cafe and a restaurant downstairs and are right next
door to an Irish pub that serves decent food.

Hotel San Carlos - http://www.hotelsancarlos.com/index.html - is literally
around the corner from the Hyatt and the convention center (two-minute walk,
if that). I got a room rate of $139. Make sure you ask for a room with two
beds if you plan to share, otherwise you'll have the same rate for one bed.

Probably not quite as comfy as the Hyatt, but a nice little quirky, old,
friendly place.

Be sure to tell them NCECA or the ceramics conference to get a good rate.
