every post I've attempted via the archives never
seems to go through.

and if there is any alternative text or attachments,
it flashes error.

My question via my e-mail to clayart is about
Brent wheel belts. I purchased a used wheel that
had a bent wheel and replaced it with new wheel
and shaft.

The belt kept slipping off so I ordered a new one.
It keeps slipping off. What gives? I believe I'm
being particular in making sure it lines up parallel
and level.

Why does this keep happening?
What can I do to stop it?

P.S. Off topic my sister and I went to see Pink
Martini. I've never heard of them before; but geez
can this group ever sing and play music. Sounded
great in Jones Hall downtown.

Kim,
Brent uses micro-v belts which are essentially
flat belts with tiny v shaped forms on the inside
meant to fit the tiny v-grooves in the pulleys.
If there is any misalignment vertically or if the
shafts are not parallel, the belt walks off.
With the belt cover off and the belt installed,
watch as the motor runs slowly to see which
way the belt moves as it walks off. The most
common cause is having the wheel head pulley
slightly too high or too low so marking the shaft
with a marking pen can help you better see the
small changes you make. If you move it upward
a tiny amount and the belt comes off quicker,
then move it downward a little at a time until
it stays on.
If none of the adjustments keep the belt on,
you may need to adjust the motor mounts
to improve the shaft parallelism. The same
method applies... a change which results in the
belt coming off quicker is the wrong change.
Make all changes small so that you don't
bypass the correct position accidentally.
This is handy stuff to know and can increase
your confidence with other types of machinery
problems as well.
