I have a Jepson bucket head but don't have a mold to make bats. I have no
interest in paying Mr. Jepson what he wants for bats. Does anyone on the
list have a mold that will work with this head that they would be willing to
sell?
Jim

When I lived in California - right before electricity was invented :)
we used pie plates and round cake pans to make plaster bats - they
worked great.

When I asked the folks at Thomas Stuart wheels in Denver about their bat
molds and my Jepson head this is the response. Does anyone on the list have
experience using a Stuart mold to make bats for a Jepson head? How about any
other molds?
Jim

"I'm not sure if our ring mold will work. Several people have purchased one
for that system but none of them have notified us if they work or not.
The 12" sells for $45 and the 16" sells for $60"

Hi Jim
Tom told me the same thing when I was buying the bucket head for my
Thomas Stuart...
I should have gotten back to him, to tell him that it did indeed work
with the Randall (identical to the Jepson), and so I can use the same
plaster bats with either bucket head...

I will call him tomorrow and let him know that he can say their molds
are successful with those other systems.

I borrowed my friend's Jepson molds when I was pouring plaster, so
that I could make more in the same time frame. The Stuart molds were
more shallow, overall, resulting in slightly less mass, but all the
bats work just as well with either bucket head.

I poured my bats upside down, with the working face of the mold
against a 1/4 inch plate glass. Some of the bottoms needed to be
surform planed flat to fit the bucket correctly, to eliminate high
spots, allowing the bat to seat in the head properly.
