Was that for the suite-type room? They told me there were two different types of rooms available - the "basic" $145 room and a higher priced one.

When in Phoenix, schedule visits to Taliesin West and Arcosanti. You will
need to rent a car but the visits are worth it.

Taliesin West is the international headquarters for the Frank Lloyd Wright
Foundation, the site of the Frank Lloyd Wright Archives, and the winter
campus for the Frank Lloyd Wright School of Architecture.

Arcosanti

In 1970, the Cosanti Foundation began building Arcosanti, an experimental
town in the high desert of Arizona, 70 miles north of metropolitan Phoenix.
When complete, Arcosanti will house 5000 people, demonstrating ways to
improve urban conditions and lessen our destructive impact on the earth. Its
large, compact structures and large-scale solar greenhouses will occupy only
25 acres of a 4060 acre land preserve, keeping the natural countryside in
close proximity to urban dwellers.

They said it was for a double with four persons. It would be great to have a
suite. I wonder what that would cost.

I just changed my reservations from the Hyatt to the Wyndham Phoenix.
No problem so far, but they are filling up fast at the $145 rate.

Of course, lots of changes will occur between now and April NCECA,
so there are usually a few rooms available at the last minute when
claybuds have to cancel. I've needed to do so twice and both times
had folks happily assume my reserved space. Easy to do.

Since I had to miss this year, I'm even more excited about seeing
all the buds and the great demos/presentations/vendor goodies
for 2009.

Take care of your bods and your pennies so you'll be able to
enjoy!

In the Mojave hoping everybody will bring pictures of their work to

Hi Keba,
Don't know if you remember me from Pittsburgh but if you are looking to secure a room for NCECA '09 and you need and extra roommate to share costs, let me know and I'll ship you a check post haste. I want to go but have no one to room with and can't afford to sign up single and hope for a roommate later. I don't smoke and I'm not a noisy roommate. And if you want to be loud that's okay because I always bring ear plugs. Okay, it sounds like I am begging patheticly. But I would love to go and the whole hotel room thing is what's holding me back. If you already have one or more roomies and don't need me I am shameless enough to make myself available to any other clayarter who wants to reserve a room and needs someone to share the expense.
Keep in mind that while I am technilogicly challenged (hence fear of making reservations on line) I can be counted upon to bring decent wine, clay stamps, my own work and a number of other bribes to recompense anyone who helps me out.
Let me know if you or anyone else wants to take in a stray potter who will fully pay her own way. If I don't respond right away, be patient as I use the pulic library's computer and can't get in on the weekends to check my email. Thank you even if you can't help but if you can, THANK YOU! --Kim Hohlmayer

If you stay across town, my experience with NCECA in Portland and Pittsburg
(where I stayed with family or friends) drive to the convention center
early, before rush hour traffic. As I am always in line for the cup sale by
6 am this is easy on Friday. Park at the convention center. That early in
the morning you can get a parking spot right next to the elevators. Your
car is out of the sun, parking all day is reasonable $11 for 15 hours in
Pittsburg. You saved more than that on the hotel room. And it is a short
haul to stash your goodies from the exhibitors in your car.

My $.02 worth.

just for the record:

we have the clayart room at the wyndam hotel.
it is the `goldwater room`, first floor/lobby, across from the
the elevator banks. easy to find.
it is 2300 sq feet, and has set up for any
config of tables. that means we can show a great
many pots if members want to haul them.

remember, you are responsible for your own set up.
just one pot/or two if they are not large. many just
bring a piece of fabric, or use the box you brought it in
as a display piece.

we can have a few tables against the wall for mugs.

this makes for a nice exchange system...or a modest
sale, here and there...just don't bring `for sale` signs.
let us keep it classy.

i always sell a few pots at nceca...but, i keep it
more under the table then `wowowow here they are`.

i have found that having members bringing a few pots
has been a total delight. every year we find a half dozen
new people that are doing some very exciting work.
they are very inspirational. and, it more than indicates
that our members are working, and making great pots.
and, we love to see a few pots from long time clayart friends.

it sure adds a new level to the clayart room. conversation,
a place to meet new folks, rest a bit, and see and hold some
pots. it adds a new level to the mug exchange. critiques are
always around the corner...and you have your pick of people
you want to talk to about your work. ron and john are always
near by...i am always glad to interact with folks...and david
hendley and many others are close at hand.

no doubt we will do some learning sessions again. kiln shelves,
kiln repair, business help and of course, those great conversations
of caring help and exchange. valued.

and, without question, we will have to be more diligent this
coming year. the room will be filled with some great pots.
valuable pots. we do not want to see any of them
slide out the door. this is risky at best, but we have
always been diligent and careful and no one has been
burned...maybe one pot last year lost, but not
bad for as many as were around. and, with the coleman/
bendel show...in our room...we will have to be very
careful... i will see if they will give me a key to the
room, and make sure it is locked before midnight, and open
at 8 a.m. or so.

this again is going to be a great nceca for clayart members.
we are already filling the wyndam. many vendors and
support folks are going to be in our hotel too. i have
send invites to book at the wyndam to many people.
and, it is an easy walk to the convention center. and,
most of you will want to be outside walking in phoenix.
