At age 19 I hitchhiked round-trip from Dallas, Texas to
Rochester, New York. It was a tremendous adventure. It was
like being in a movie, only it was real life. I can still
vividly remember the stories people told me about themselves
as we drove for hours through the night.
I would not recommend hitchhiking, though, because of the
danger.
Sincerely,

You were a lucky fellow, Arnold. When I was teaching in the '70's two
of my kids were killed by people who picked them up while hitchhiking
(they were running away from the school). It was a traumatic event
for all of the staff.
