Well ... after 20 years since our working in England we are bringing a major
bit of england here. In a rare opertunity svend bayer will be in ukiah
[n.california] at our studio for a week long workshop.!!!
Svend Bayer is the Michael Cardew apprentice best know for the huge jars
and functional pots he produces in Devon England from a local "wild" ball
clay and fires in a very large, 900 cubic ft. anagama kiln. He has been
following this path with his work for over 20 years.
the Svend Bayer Workshop at the Red Clay Ranch will be as follows;
March 20 [friday] to March 29 [sunday]
1.starting with loading our anagama, 22`x11`x7`
[with svends work from the week previous and the work participants bring]
2.when the firing gets going , so will svend with demonstrations,
and hands on for particapants,
3.finish firing woodkiln,
preheat for 1 day, firing for 3 to 4 days
4.then field trips, as the kiln cools to galleries, studios, ocean,
Mendocino Artcenter, wineries, ect. perhaps a day long hike,
5.bisquet workshop pots
6.then unload wood kiln with critiques by svend on the firing and results.
the cost for the firing, camping and svend workshop is $450.
space is limited.
we have room for camping both at the kiln site and at the studio for free,
and a great deal at a local b&b. walking distance to our studio. there is an
outdoor kitchen on the property with the kiln and all the beauty of northern
california in the spring.

Svend Bayer will present a lecture and workshop on Wood-fired Pottery,
March 20-22. the cost is =24165. Fri. nite from 7-9 p.m. there will be a
slide lecture in Price Auditorium, Cost is =245. A reception will follow
in Tatem Arts Center,

Svend Bayer will present a workshop at Odyssey Center for the Ceramic
Arts in Asheville, NC on May 8 & 9, 1998. The workshop format will be 2
day demonstration with breakfast and lunch included both days. Cost is
$125.00.
Svend will demonstrate the production of his work, including very large
forms on the wheel, and discuss his travel and knowledge of wood fired
