Mr. heat moon has written another travel book, River Horse, about a
coast-to-coast journey by boat. Not really easy to do. And a non-travel
book called, Prairie Earth, about Chase County, Kansas.

Inter state 35 cuts across a corner of Chase county north of Wichita. It
would seem that there is not a lot there but he got several hundred pages
out of it. Just over a page per square mile, perhaps. About 4 people per
page. (778 sq. mi, 3030 people) In the map accompanying the Wikipedia
article, there are no blue highways in Chase Co.

River Horse (after the boat used) is less meditative and more exciting.
Much of the concern about river navigation is commerce driven, so its
direction and improvement follows the money. Mr. Heat Moon's effort was not
money directed and was thus difficult.

I believe the author did or does teach at University of Missouri, Columbia.

If you live near Columbia, or are traveling that way, Access Arts is an
interesting non-profit arts teaching organization with an active ceramics
program. I built pots there for about 8 months last year.

The Flatbranch Brewing Company is a cool brewpub, not far from the pottery
studio. I built my waistline there for about 8 months last year.
