The president of our ceramics guild in Grand Junction, CO has asked me to
post the following announcement. Further information is available at the

I did not attend the last Randy Broadnax workshop, but people who did tell
me it was a good investment of time and money.

The Grand Junction Ceramic Arts Guild is hosting a participatory workshop
with Randy Broadnax and Don Ellis at a member's studio located 20 miles west
of Grand Junction, CO. This will be a 5-day event starting on Thursday,
September 4th and concluding on Monday, September 8th. The cost is $300 for
members and $350 for non-members. There will also be room for 3 to 5
observers at $200. There are a few places still open. I will need 1/2
payment to hold your place, with the balance due by August 1st. We will
have room for about 15 wheel throwers, as well as the 3 to 5 observers. The
down payment of 1/2 is not refundable. You also need to bring your own
wheel, or make arrangements in advance.

Here is a general synopsis of what the workshop is expected to include.

Participants will:
-Increase their throwing skills by up to 100% with techniques that Randy
and Don will teach

-Learn how to do low-salt firing

-Learn how to do high-salt firing

-The formulae and use of cone 6 lichen glazes

-The formulae for cone 6 oxidation glazes that look like cone 10
reduction glazes

-The use of colored engobes

-The use of commercial glazes

-How to do copper matte firing

-How to do copper flashing firing

-How to employ alternative throwing techniques

-Good Food -Making art takes a lot of energy. At the 2004 workshop,
Randy fed the masses with a genuine Cajun Jambalaya and promises to do the
same this year. Also, workshop participants will pool their resources to
make sure no one goes hungry.
