strontium carb vs barium carb

Hi ! It's possible to replace strontium carb with barium in a glaze isn't
it? Are there any disadvantages to this, eg colour changes, temp changes
etc. Can you replace it in equal amounts? The reason I'd like to try
strontium is that it would make it safer to use. Am I right? Any
information on stontium and it's use would be really apreciated. Thanks a
lot.

Lyn,
to get the same fluxing activity the general rule is to use one quarter less
strontium than barium (i.e. 75percent strontium quantity versus 100 percent
barium quantity). Color response and surface texture will be similar, but
the best idea is to make a test of the two glazes and see the results for
your conditions.
