While I was in Tucson, I threw some Laguna cone 10 stoneware and
porcelain which were bisqued at cone 04.
Can I fire that in my home kiln with a cone 6 glaze? or do I have to
glaze it with a cone 10 glaze and fire at 10?
Thanks for your info and advice.
Cheers,
Jeanette

You certainly can - but as I understand it:
It may not be fully vitrified, so it won't be at its maximum strength,
and may be still partially porous. I did some tests a while back on
various ^10 clays at ^6 for absorption - had one that appeared to be
at 0% given the tools I had, the rest were 2%-3%, which is at or just
outside the stoneware range. The shrinkage rate is likely to be
different as well, so you may end up with some glaze fit issues. More
experienced & wiser potters have told me there's no trouble, and other
wiser ones have waxed rhapsodic on vitrification, strength and
porosity when I asked the same question (which is why I did the test)

Jeanette, you can fire it at ^6 and it might look good, but beware that the clay will possibly not mature and your glaze will possibly not fit. Beware that it might not be food, dishwasher and microwave safe because of that.
