fires in california

Hi Joyce, et al...
I'm in Calaveras county. in the Sierra foothills.
We had 16 fires started by the storm (and another T-storm in the forecast
this weekend), but its not the fires themselves that are effecting us, but
the smoke.
With the San Joaquine valley to our west and the Sierras to the east, smoke
from all over the state has settled over the Mother Lode. Our visibility has
been greatly reduced - where we can normally see the Central Valley from our
windows, to about 1/4 mile. We have not seen the sun in a good week - my
vegatable plants are beginning to yellow from lack of sun, and not only we
humans are having a tough time breathing. 2 of my horses have developed
coughs in the last few days.

We have a bit of a breeze today, which hopefully will help rid us of the
smoke, but there is the fear of more fires, so one must be careful what one
wishes for.
I expect its the same for most Californians not near the ocean.

Hoping everyone is safe and stays that way!

>>Hello-

You should try to get yourselves and your animals out of there.

I live in Walnut Creek, Ca. inland from the San Francisco bay area and
we have fires south of us as well. Santa Cruz mountains and Big Sur
have fires now as well as those north of us. It looks just like L.A .
smog, you know there are mountains there but you can't see them. Air
quality is bad. I took some photos but have no way of posting them, the
sun rise is the same red-orange as the sun set. The ocean breeze has
kicked in now and things are looking better if there is no more fires.
4th of July is next week and people are complaining about the upcoming
fire works displays. I have two nephew -in - laws that work for the
Palo Alto Fire Dept. that are up near Chico now and have been there for
a week. I hope everybody keeps safe and stays inside. Mike Gordon

Hi Mike,

The East Bay air isn't too bad right now. It was pretty murky for the last
few days.

I second your hopes for safety all around.

Best,

Rikki
