I have no idea how much testing Emmanuel Cooper did on the recipes he
publishes--esp. in a book such as his "Potter's Book of Glaze Recipes." I
expect Harry Fraser--who was head man of Podmore's glaze "division"--would
only publish a tried and true recipe.
But the point was, is, remains, that you must test every recipe on the clay
body YOU are using, fire it in YOUR kiln, put it in the dishwasher, put a
lime slice on it....check it out for yourself.
