My friend in Cleveland, OH wants to sell her kick wheel. The Kloppenstein
wheels are steel and work wonderfully. If you are interested, she is asking
$500 OBO. Here is her email address: rakujmu@yahoo.com. If you wish to call
her here's her phone number:216-408-8828.

This is the wheel I learned to throw on in college. Whole room full of them.
If it fell out of the back of a pickup it would still work. There is no wood
on this wheel. Heavy cast flywheel and metal treadle kick bar. Big square
splash pan the size of the entire wheel. Hip fits into a support on this
standup wheel. Great for trimming because it had a bar that you could swing
out near your work to balance your trimming hand. Wish I had one today. If
anyone in Texas has one that they would like to sell I'll come and pick it
up tomorrow!

Ooh, I have one of these and would highly recommend it - mine is steel and I love that it's a stand up wheel instead of sitting bending over all the time. I don't know the person who is selling theirs, but I just had to chime in as no one else in my area (central arkansas) has ever heard of or seen one except for mine!!!

if i'm not mistaken, these are the stand up wooden treadle wheels once
very common throughout ohio, i was told they were made by one man
somewhere up near cleveland. they were the only wheels my high school
in columbus had during the '80s (they were already pretty old then).
i was lucky to get one many years later and it has moved with me many
times. it is still strong, sturdy and smooth. kloppensteins are very
special.

I used a all metal standup treadle wheel at the Karamu House, also in
Cleveland. I believe the name was like this. IT was a different experience
that any other wheel I have used, but I was surprised how easily I learned
to use it. The posture does not allow as much force as the seated position
but it is a comfortable position. IF you want to throw tall, you have to be
tall. The clear down side is getting whacked in the leg by the treadle when
attention lapses.
