Hope everyone in the earthquake area got through it without damage.

Here is the desert my house shook for a few seconds and that was it. I think I'm about 70 miles or so from the epicenter. What I found interesting was that I was on the phone with one of my colleagues. She lives in Newport Beach - closer to the epicenter. In the midst of our conversation, I heard strange rattling from her end. She then said that it was an earthquake. She continued to comment on the earthquake. Then my house shook for a few seconds. My house is new and is one story high, so my feet were on the ground during the earthquake. Had the earthquake happened yesterday, I would have been on the 14th floor of my company's office in LA. I would not have been as calm. Apparently, the 14th floor had some shaking going on during the earthquake today.

Hi Shula,

Good to hear that everything out your way is ok. I went through a big
one out in Palm Springs in the 80's. No fun. We could hear it rumbling
down the valley for 10 seconds before the shaking arrived.

We got a good long rock & roll from this one over here in your old South
Bay stomping grounds!

I'm on the second floor of one of the only remaining great old 20's
bungalows in this neighborhood. The house has a special earthquake meter
feature.

I always know the earthquake is above 4.0 on the Richter scale, when the
old cast iron counterweights for the double hung windows start to bang
around inside the walls. They were banging for over 30 seconds this time...

I can tell that it's over 6.0, when it sounds like a freight train is
running through the living room ;^)
