I loved Guangzhen Zhou ("Po") critique of China yesterday & today.
Recently, with
anticipation of the Olympics, I read China Road by Rob Clifford -- this is
written by
a Brit who had been living in Beijing working for PBS (I think) & he sends
his family
home & goes to Shanghai to make his way along the "silk road" to the
western
border of China. He travels by a lot of different means of transportation
& he speaks
fluent Chinese. He talks a lot about China, past, present, & future. It
is another
slant on China & every bit, helps us to understand what is going on there.
