> China paint (or overglaze enamel) has been a popular =20
> ceramic decorating medium for 1000 years, but is almost unknown =20
> among today's studio ceramists. However, it's more like watercolor =20=
> or oil painting than any other ceramic material, and those ceramic =20
> artists who are painters at heart find it very exciting. Firings =20
> are fast and cheap, and the colors are the same before and after =20
> firing. Many of the techniques of watercolor, oil painting, =20
> enameling and printmaking can be used with china paint.
>
> In this workshop we will explore methods of applying and =20=
> firing china paint on ceramic tile. While it is traditionally mixed =20=
> with an oil medium, we will primarily be using water as a medium. =20
> We will use all kinds of brushes, and will also stamp, print, spray, =20=
> and stencil china paints. And we will investigate resist and =20
> wipeout techniques, as well as traditional shading and ground-laying =20=
> methods.
>
> Each student will produce tiles of their own design, and =20=
> we will also cooperate in the decorating of several collaborative =20
> murals. Tiles will be fired each night for four nights, and =20
> students will leave with finished tiles. White or Clear Glazed Pots =20=
> are also okay to China paint on.
>
> Some inexpensive housing is available for those coming from a long =20
> distance.
