by Carleton Ball and Loos......... does anybody have a copy in
good condition that
they'd like to sell? If so, please contact me off list.

Thanks, Kim, for the reminder. I started researching this book way
back 5 years ago when I needed to switch from the wheel for awhile.

Until I had little choice IF I wanted to work with clay, I had small regard
for handbuilding, although I always marveled at some handbuilt
pieces (Bacia's, for example....... wow! And later...... Marta's.... such
growth there! And Russel's incredible bowls..... all clearly their own
work!! Visit Russel's website. You used to be able to find all three
artists' work represented.)

Then....... life happened........ and more life........ and I forgot about the
Ball and Loos book. Now I'm on the search again..... life is good.

Thank you.

Joyce
In the Mojave desert of California where once again I need to turn off the
swamp cooler (evaporative) and switch on the air conditioner....... it's
too expensive to consider using the ac all the time.... especially since
the swamp cooler usually is just right for a desert meandering house,
a feisty westie and an Ol' Girl (as Tony says..... jeez.... true or not....
jeez...... still it's a pleasure to read Tony regardless...... and actually I
kind of like it...... appropriate ..... I'm old by any standards..... and at
times not so old........ I think I'll finally create a signature and
incorporate
Ol' Girl into it......... better yet.... change Roadrunner Studios to Ol' Girl
Studios. Now THAT I really like............ best yet..........

I wish I had know that you were looking for this book. I could have bought
it for as little as two dollars.
Here is the link to the list on addall. There is over a hundred copies for
about four dollars up for soft cover and hard cover. It shows up all the
time on eBay. Perhaps instead of a list of favorite books clayarters should
put up their wants. Many times I have had multiples of some books.

I'm with you, Jim. I also have a small booth in an antique mall so I haunt sales and other antique malls as well as used book stores. I often find all sorts of used pottery books including some of my favorites. I love all the Robert Fournier books but seem to be the only person who knows about them so I am glad I was able to find them all used and one in the weirdest little second hand store in the middle of nowhere. Would love to know its travels to end up there,
Anyway, I would be happy to look out for books for people. Just let me know. --Kim H.

Hi Joyce,
I am always happy when someone responds positively to a book I recommend. If I find a decent copy I will send it off to you-assuming ten other people have not already done so. Fournier's book on hand building is also super but I feel like the only person who knows he exists. If you ever find a copy of Mary Roger's book that also is a keeper. Happy searching. --Kim (slighty toasted but healing very quickly) H.

Thanks for the complement Joyce!

I'm not sure if you're talking about the guest pages (still there) or
the Potters Portal which hasn't been updated in a LONG time. Many of
the links still work but I no longer maintain it.

This looks like a good a place as any to announce my blog (also
updated irregularly) called POTSILIKE. You can see it at
http://potsilike.blogspot.com/. I like to look at pots and I look at
a lot of pots in the 'flesh', in books, on the internet, where ever I
can find them. I have always found that I get a lot of excitement and
inspiraton from looking at and experiencing other peoples pots. Maybe
I can infect you with the Pot Fondling and Ogling bug.

I'm definitely not going to win any editorial awards.

Enjoy,

Russel
