Whoops..... one of our local potters who read my last posts about
our district's Secondary Education Program....... reminded me
by phone and by e-mail that I had left out the Regional Occupation
Program which "kept more potential dropouts in school than any other
class."

I think she's right ... so, even if it means nothing to anybody else, I'd
like to take the opportunity to add the high school's Construction
Class!! Indeed. They built a house each year in addition to building
other significant projects which are scattered all about town. The
houses were attractive and functional. They then sold the houses in
order to earn money for the next year's program. Their teacher, in
construction himself which was a requirement to teach ROP (to have
had five years recent successful experience in the field to be taught)
taught construction skills..... that's for sure....... but he also managed
to throw in life skills which, to my mind, were of equal importance.
He ran a tight shop, and a clean one.

I'm so glad my friend reminded me about this class!
