I'm trying without success so far to match the color of my alligator pots
and baskets at cone 10 reduction to what I was getting in cone 6 oxidation.
A light golden or straw color dry matt finish. You can see them on my web
site if you would like. In the past I would rub red iron oxide in the cracks
on the alligator and then spray a thin layer of an ash glaze on them but
that doesn't work at cone 10 reduction.
I'm thinking of mixing up a 50/50 mixture of rutile and gertsley borate in a
wash and spraying a thin layer on the pieces. What ever I use needs to give
the straw color and be very thin or it will fill in the cracks on the
alligator pots surface.
So far all the different glazes I have tried, when applied thin and fired in
reduction give me a dark brown or muddy greenish color. That's why I thought
a thin wash mixture might do better.
Does anyone have any idea if the rutile wash will give me a straw color, dry
matt finish??? Or are there any other suggestions?? I'd like to find
something that would work at cone 10 because I really don't want to have to
fire these at cone 6.
Thanks!!!
