My little ASUS EEEPC and wifi have made all sorts of electronic media
functional. (Here in Japan, I have been using my EEEPC as a portable
internet radio, instead of the Rube Goldberg setup I used for years.)

But I really don't see E-books every fully replacing paperbooks.
I can see buying an E-book and then going to Kinkos with your disk or
chip and having a paper book printed and bound. But you really need
paper for "knowledge" books. Information transmits easily
electronically, but you need a different mindset for knowledge.

I can listed to audio books much more effectively than I can
read an E-novel, for instance.

Lee,

What you say has much truth in it, but there are occasions "when the Devil drives, we needs must ride!", and in that case an E-book becomes a viable option.

Lee,
I recieved an Amazon Kindle for my birthday in June. It is not ready
for prime time as far as illustrations are concerned and still is
black and white. It is certainly not sleek, but I love it for just
reading novels and such. I also have converted some journal articles I
have to read on the go and tried out some free trials of newspapers
and magazines to see how they work.

I like that it is easy on your eyes. The reading interface is "digital
Ink" and is nothing like a computer screen. It is the size of a paper
bound and only a few ounces. You can make the font larger if you like.
If you don't know the meaning of a word, you can click on it and get
an immediate definition (your choice of dictionary). If you don't
understand a concept or want to know more, you can click on a word or
phrase and are taken to "wiki" to read more. If you are in the airport
and decide you want to read a novel by Joe Schmo or they are out of
the NYTimes, you can go to Amazon right on the Kindle and download and
read in a minute or 2. It downloads over its own cell phone lines and
is free, so you don't need to be near wifi. Books you download are
usually cheaper than the hard copy.

Still only for download in the US now.
