Hey all, Does anyone have any experience with Paul Soldner's clay body?

25 parts ball clay
25 parts silica
25 parts redart or EPK
25 parts fireclay

He says Voulkos added 10% feldspar for glaze work

I was wondering about using Neph Sy for the feldspar @ ^6

I am thinking of using it as single fire with shino in a gas kiln tp ^6.
I fired it in a primitive wood fire with nice results though I think it
needs to go higher.
Thanks for your in put,

Are there substantial differences in the available fireclays ?

Hi Eric,

Red Art of EPK - does not make any sense - one is an earthen ware clay -
the other is a kaolin?

If the redart is used it's like a cone 6 clay - if the feldspar and kaolin
are used it's like a cone 10 clay but probably with lots of cristobalite.

With EPK and Neph Sy it's a cone 6 body again.

I'm just making comparisons with clays I have the recipes and test data for.
