Hi Sam -

Check out Dean McRaine at Lightwave Pottery in Kapaa (Island of Kauai).
Actually, he just posted to Clayart regarding using concrete instead of
plaster for wedging surfaces.

If you get to Kauai, check out the Hindu Monastery there. My son is one of
the monks resident there.

Aloha!

Hi everyone

We're planning to go to the Islands for our 25th anniversary. Of course,
I'll be checking out the pottery while we're there (picture hubby rolling
eyes).

If you've been recently; or better yet, live there; please contact me as all
the choices are confusing and I could use a little direction.

I'll be taking along some Maple Leaf pots to trade :-)

Hi Sam -

Make sure you get to Maui ......HEAVEN!!!!!

On Maui is the Island Art Centre. It is called Hui No 'eau .... It
is incredible just to see the buildings but you are able to
participate as well.

Nora an I spent two months on the Island and I went to work in the
pottery studio virtually every day. What great people they are!!!!

Have fun!!!!

Sam, if you have time while you are in Hawaii, go to the Big
Island. It is enchanting and far away from the crowds. Be
sure to visit the Kilauea National Park, one of the most
beautiful places I have ever seen.

No pottery there that I know about, but go to Molokai if you can. National
Geographic has rated it as the 5th [?] most beautiful island in the world,
mainly because there is almost no development there. The island itself is
just gorgeous, and was pretty empty when I was there about two years ago.
Empty beaches, empty trails, only about one or two hotels on the island. A
serenity that is amazing. I think there is a ferry from Maui, and an
airport.
I stayed with a friend who was renting a small, dilapidated house. Great
fun. There are also condos [a few].
There is a "no development" policy in effect.

Best,

Rikki
