Randy's Red makes a nice purple with .5-2% cobalt carb substituted for the iron.

Hi Clayart
I got a very Cobalt blue with using 2% cobalt in the Randi's red base.
However, Jeannie's Purple, published in ClayTimes Jan-Feb. 2005, which is
Ron and John''s Raspberry base, yielded a very purple glaze with the
addition of
0,20 Chrome
3,75 Tin
0,60 Cobalt Carb.
Additionally there is the same base with the addition of
1 Coblalt Carb.
0.25 Rio
Which also yielded a very blue glaze with a slight purplish cast.
All can be seen on my flickr site at the blue and opal album
