remember, one of the only crafts know...that
only uses the hands...or has the hands directly
on the material is clay.
think about it.
silver smith/tools
wood worker/tools
weaver/tools
they love silver, the touch, they love wood
the touch, thread and yarn...the touch.
but, the machines and tools often rule the
work.
we just need hands and clay.
and how you spin it...who cares?.
foot power, motor....it is how
you touch clay.

You touch the clay with your feet too on a manual wheel.
Especially on the korean type wheel that you work barefooted.
The kindness to the body comes from the fact than you do not inflict
multiple horse powers upon it.
It is especially important with beginners because they don't know
you do not have to spin fast and hard. Once you have the concept in
your body, you can easily slow down an electric wheel.
Next, we could talk about why a kiln isn't just a box that holds heat. ;^)
