Eric -

Go see Tom and Elaine Coleman! They're nearby. Also, Phil Poburka - Bison
Tools. They're awesome.

Head out to Pottery West the new facility set up by Amy Kline. You
could probably stay there instead of a cheesy hotel in LV. She even
has a lap pool not far from the train kiln.
cheers,
Tony

As far as I am concerned, the only thing of interest in the entire
city of Las Vegas would be Phil Poburka, our Bison Tool man! Of
course, I have never been to Las Vegas.

Oh goody, Louisville, Ky ...............
Rats, can't think of anything but horse racing, and I like horses.....

OK so maybe it isn't such a good idea to write replies to clayart when I'm in pain, my back has been out for three weeks now and the chiropractor isn't working.......
I do have a reputation of grumpiness to uphold though..... :)

Earl...calm down. No one is criticizing Las Vegas. We just really
like Phil...and you aren't so bad yourself when you aren't grouchy!
I was glad to see the list you added.
Dolita-in Louisville, Ky...I am sure you will have fun with that.

Right on Dolita!

Aside from some non clay things like Red Rock Canyon and Flaming Gorge, I agree one of the best things in Las Vegas is Phil!

Yeah, whatever.

I happen to LIKE my hometown, and find it rather insulting that you guys want to criticize it and choose not to look past the Strip. That would be a little shallow on your part. Like any other location that relies on tourists and visitors, there is that side of Vegas, but also like any other location, there is the local side of things, as nice as Phil is, he is hardly the only thing Vegas has to offer.

http://www.potterywest.com by Amy Kline, is still becoming established, but she is really developing a nice facility.

http://www.nevadaclayguild.org does a great job with it's Annual Empty Bowls Event among it's other activities

There are a number of groups around the valley who are really doing some nice work, independently and together.

And of course there is always Tom and Elaine Coleman and their studio. http://www.tomandelainecoleman.com/

So, where are you guys from, so I can stick my nose up at it?

Hey Earl,

I have to say when I gave a workshop there a few years ago, Earl and the other artists who came were quite hospital friendly and enjoyable including Tom and Elaine Coleman with whom I stayed with. I enjoyed the area, the strip (not my thing but can be appreciated on a certain level) the desert and surrounding area--one of my grandfathers happens to live there. Expensive Vegas is but the desert has its own charm. I learned by observation how Tom as an artist was inspired by his surroundings and incorporated the energy of the desert forms into his work and this was also apparent in some of other artist's work in the area. Cool trip and hope to do it again some day. Take it easy Earl.
