Hello,

I have a digital photography course for beginners that I developed and taught at a local college and own the intellectual property rights to--this includes 25 lessons with supportive imagery, text, and step by step editing videos that show you how to edit digital imagery, alter, color correct, resize, save, and too many other things to list here. It does not focus specifically on lighting your artwork. That is one of the current workshops I give.

I am curious how many artists on the list would be interested in taking a digital photography course online with me? This would be a not for credit course and would fall under personal / business development training.

This digital photography course may interest you if;

1. You really want to learn how to use your digital camera and its functions or are planning on buying one.

2. You want to begin to learn how to take professional photographs for personal or business use.

3. You want to learn or develop your aesthetic design/compositional perceptual abilities

4. Have a fun online experience with fellow artists from around the world.

We will probably use Moodle for the course content delivery system where we can post images, our discussion, etc. It will be cool. So, if you are interested, please let me know.

Hi Tony,

Your course is something I really need but I'm not sure I have the
background "tools". I am a Total dummy about both computers and
cameras (including digital). Am I a hopeless case?

Hi Joan,

No, lol, you are not a hopeless case. You just need to have the will to learn and be willing to be patient with yourself and your computer. If you have that, I can teach you. If you can surf the internet, use email/post you should have very little problems (and none that can't be remedied) if you take the class.

Essientially, you will read the lessons, do the lessons with your camera, use a photo editor like photoshop elements, gimp, photoshop cs3, etc., save that edited photo on your computer and then upload that photo to the internet, post your thoughts, have discussion, etc. My video tutorials go over all of that.

The video tutorial portion is not streamed, its downloaded to your computer so the modem folks (and I have had a handful in my classes when I taught for the college) will not have any problems. If you have a mac, everything should work fine, if not, its usually a codec issue and I have a link to download and update your codecs so the videos will play on your macintosh.

Hi Jo,

The speed of your land line doesn't make a difference. The course was designed for people with modems as well. You can download the video (which are 4mb to 11mb). Did you try downloading any yet? If need be, I will mail them to you on disk along with the course. The dates are incorrect, that was just a sample of what the previous course looked like. See attached sheet for more information.

Thank you so much for your interest in my digital photography course online. Attached in pdf format--here is some more detailed information and the cost of the class. If you have any questions let me know. We can start within the next week or two or later depending on what you would like to do.

Hi Sandy,

Check it out:

http://www.tonyferguson.net/dig1timeline_clayart_course_info.htm

This has been updated with links to codec, updates etc. Let me know if the videos work for you. Updating some videos right now so check back if they don't appear right away. The cost is $250. Consider taking a look at the site to see what you are getting for that. Take care and hopefully we'll see you in the class.

Ellie,

There have been a lot of questions so I am going to explain as best as I can:

The nature of this particular course, is from my college digital photography course I taught that really teaches you how to use your camera (any digital camera), photograph, edit in any number of digital photography editors and many more very useful skills, tricks, and techniques but more relaxed, no tests, 2 lessons a week with video tutorials for the editing lessons, etc., me providing feedback, having discussion, etc. The cost is $250 and you should go to the website and see specifically what you are getting for that. I've lowered the cost for clayarters and included the videos.

If you can surf the web and can learn to upload images to the web (which I will help you with), then there is a 99% chance you can take this course online. There are always video codec issues with out of date media players and I am resolving those with people right now in preprepation for the class starting Sep 22.

This course was built on MNSCU standards so it is very comprehensive. You will come out of this class very knowledgeable with hands on skills that are applicable to anything you do with your camera and editing it in photoshop cs3, elements, (any version) gimp, etc. Taking the course with me is like coming over for an Italian dinner. You always leave with left overs, fresh bread and maybe a pot or two!

The format essentially is you work on 2 lessons at your convenience a week on average (you post questions, you get answers at any time you wish), upload your images based on the lesson, we discuss/feedback, I provide help throughout the entire process, we share our ideas, discoveries, questions, etc. See here:
http://www.tonyferguson.net/dig1timeline_clayart_course_info.htm

I can if there is enough interest (been wanting to do this), develop my current hands on photo shoot workshop for online or DVD:

http://www.tonyferguson.net/workshops.htm

which addresses specifically how to set up a copy stand, light, and shoot your work as well as edit your work to the online format (covering on the cheap to professional equipment). This would amount to me, in front of the camera, shooting various things and discussing and demonstrating the techniques of using light, diffusion, hard light Fresnel, and many other things. You can see the past workshops I've given here and examples of the artist's work I've shot:
http://www.tonyferguson.net/photo.htm

Many artists who have taken my workshops now do all their own professional photography and editing (or better know how to shop for a photographer) or have raised the bar of what they were previously doing. Some are on this list! I believe, with the increased cost in travel and accomodations, online training is going to be crucial to our survival as well as allow us access to knowledge and experience otherwise not available.

Let me know if you have any further questions. The best part is that instead of 1 or 2 days, you have 12 weeks (or however long the training is) at your convenience since there is no regular meeting times to ask questions and get feedback as you develop your digital skills.

Hi Ellie, thanks for your interest.

Did you have a look at the course? Did you download and try some of the videos? Were you able to see and hear them? Take a look here, I've done some revising: http://www.tonyferguson.net/dig1timeline_clayart_course_info.htm

We are looking at starting on the 29th.

Let me know if you have any questions? If you don't, you can send me $250 via check or paypal.
