this is been an old fight for years.

my take:

art students need the studio to study.
regular students do their work at the library
or in their rooms.
art students rarely can do that.
is there a pottery wheel and clay provided at their dorm?

if you study medicine, is the hospital closed on
sunday?
it you are studying to be a vet...do they lock up
the animals all weekend.?

do the phy ed/athletic students have a gym or pool, or
track open to them all weekend?

what are the library hours?\

why in the hell does an art student get shut out
of the facility all weekend? silliness.
and, typically some dean will say...`well, those kids can
draw pictures in their dorm room`.

i guess it depends on the institution. when i went to the university
of montevallo, except for holidays when the school was closed, we had
access to all art facilities 24/7. i guess we had to to keep our
national accreditation. it's hard to make art without a studio. even
computer art needs a studio, maybe not a large one, but it calls for
one none the less.

My most productive times at college was all nighters.... as a matter
of fact I pulled
an all nighter on Thursday. I finished glazing, programed my kiln and
hit the start button at 4:15am.
It reminded me of those great days in the 60s! Back then I could do it
many nights in a row.
Many artists work better late at night. Denying night/weekend access
to studios could be detrimental for those students.
