My rapid fire kiln is working great. I have fired the first version about
45 times and have had great success. I rebuilt the fiber section about a
month ago using a wrap technique instead of a cut-section technique. Tom
Buck provided a specially cut brick for the intake port and now wind is not
a factor! I have some pics on my web page and will have lots more in the
near future. Hope to have a page dedicated to the rapid firing project with
pictures already digitized showing stages of construction. I believe this
design will make gas reduction firing possible for a ton of potters out
there who have previously been intimidated by city bylaws, length of
firing, size and cost of kilns etc etc. I am very excited about both of
these projects and would like as much response as possible.

I have finally got my program finished and would like to have as many
people as possible to try it. The program is called Glaze Simulator. You
can download a trial version from my web page at www.golden.net/~fraserf.
This version will run 30 times and then cease to load ( you could
indefinitely reinstall the program but each time the databases would be
overwritten with the stock versions). I am very concerned with feedback and
suggestions at this point. The program uses colour coded graphs and several
'smart' logic routines that makes glaze formulation much more intuitive. If
you try it out let me know if you find bugs. I am most curious about how
user friendly the program appears to be. The program also comes with
several databases: materials, recipes, oxide properties.
