You can buy generators for almost half that amount. But, it might
be worthwhile having backup battery power. Many things like
lighting and basic electronics can run off of low voltage AC. I hope
to do this someday and have at least, back up solar for charging.
At the monastery in New Albin Iowa, they use a propane
refridgerator. Works pretty good. Might be a nice to have in the
garage.
