web designers - what are your rates?

I have a few people asking me to design web sites for them. I am
curious as to what the web designers on this list charge for their work.

One of these clients is asking for some logo art work for a header and
the site will have a home page linked to 5 other pages. The links
will also be custom graphics. The layout is pretty basic with mainly
pictures and body text.

I have been charging $350 to set up a homepage and layout the site.
The client pays to register their domain name and pays for the yearly
server charges. After the initial site setup I have been charging $50
an hour for additional pages and art work.

So if you wouldn't mind sharing what you charge, I would like to hear
how you price this type of work.

Wow, nice price. Can I hire you?

Here in San Francisco, experienced HTML & PHP geeks generally go for about
$100/hour. Inexperienced for about $75. Good graphic designers are more,
maybe $150/hour, but a lot of them charge a piece rate (e.g. logo for
$800) instead.

Of course, if you're just using Dreamweaver or Microsoft or something, then
rates are correspondingly lower.

Never bill fixed rate. You're just inviting the client to ask you for two
dozen design meetings.
