Chris; I have weathered the above colours. When these colours were
king our living room was painted Tavern Yellow. We have never wanted
to be like others. There are more out there like Sheila and I. They
are generally associated with the arts community. They are the ones
that make ruff neigbourhoods chi chi to live in and then can't afford
to live there, make ugly shoes like Birkenstocks vogue and then can't
afford to wear them, start the trend of wearing working blue jeans
only to see them become prewashed and destressed to sell on Rodeo
Drive, Hollywood.
I would like to make work for the people that can afford Wendell
Castle furniture. I doubt the people that can afford a Castle chair
shop for their accessories at Pottery Barn or Home Sense ( 2 places I
have no desire to set foot in).
When you take the population of the US surely there are enuff out
there to support your particular aesthetic.
I am presenting my "Putting Lipstick on a Pig" workshop this weekend
to the Hamilton Potters. I am thrilled to see that many of the
participants are successful potters. Past workshops have been about
showing as many tricks as I know. These people are not coming to see
me for tricks. This one is for people that are looking for change in
their work. They have seen me changing and are interested in change
themselves. Change seems to be a recurring theme in both our
countries. It takes courage!
Cheers,
Tony
