blue flame

I have two Ransome B-4 high pressure burners on my MFT 35 cu ft kiln. I =
am using propane and the burners came from Mark Ward with a propane =
orifice in them so that part is correct. He also sent the connecting =
hose and splitter T for the burners. I run about 7 to 8 lbs. of pressure =
at the regulator. Anymore pressure than that then the flame blasts away =
from the burner tip about an inch. The burner ports are 41/2 X 5 and the =
burners set back from the port 1/2 inch. I've tried setting the burners =
back 1 inch with no change in the flame.

The problem seems to be that no matter where the gas pressure is set or =
where the air shutter is set, I don't ever get a totally blue clean =
flame that everyone seems to speak of. The best I have gotten the flame =
is blue about 8 to 10 inches from the burner tip and yellow the rest of =
the way. Maybe I'm just looking at it wrong or maybe there are other =
things I need to try. Lowering the gas pressure to 3 to 5 lbs. doesn't =
seem to help either just makes the heat rise slower.

Thanks for any help and suggestions!!!

Gene,

You are correct in thinking something isn't right.
I Fire B-3's and the flame is more clear than blue on propane.
I get a yellow flame ONLY when I cut way back on the primary air.
If nothing is obstructing the air threw the burner. Call Mark
At seven lbs. pressure those Ransoms should be quite loud, are they?
I assume that you have really inspected those burners.

Talk to Mark. Good man.

Good firing

Gene,

Check the primary air adjustment. Sounds like it is very much off the mark.

Gene,

I use two Ransome B-5 at 10psi no secondary regulator in the same size kiln.
I get an extremely long clean flame and the burners do sing as someone
mentioned. The B-5s are a little larger but I use a port opening that is
about 5 1/2" x 7 1/2". Mark Ward did give me a heads up when I was building
the kiln to make sure the burner ports are large enough. I seems to me the
rule of thumb for burner ports is about 1 inch clearance all around and the
burner about 1" back from the port. There are quite a few things that could
account for your problem, true pressure, draft, port size. As suggested,
give Mark a call. He diagnosed a problem I was having in just a few minutes.

Good Luck
Paul
