Hi all,
Quick question. Have you or have you heard of anyone using industrial
electric meat grinders/extruders as a pugmill? Wouldn't that also work? They
are all over eBay and this might be a cheaper alternative. Curious on your
thoughts.
Thanks!

Dear Elliott,

about thirty years ago I tried using a variety of meat grinders without =
real success. The problem is that most were made of cast iron, which is =
OK for soft meat, but the resistance of clay is massively greater, so =
the metal broke in a variety of places. My suggestion of previous =
experience is not to bother, as you will spend more frustrating times =
with trying to make these buggers to work. Now you might find a =
stainless steel one, but the motor will not have the balls and will most =
probably blow.

happy potting from Marek

I had a bunch of clay freeze and then thaw a few years ago and used an old
hand cranked meat grinder to pug it up and even out the consistency. It
worked pretty good!
