The danger lurking behind the crack is that its acceptence as a natural
result of the process or its repititous simulation, enhancement and use as
a design element leads to conventionalization. In effect becoming a
necessary condition and an empty gesture. Rather like flushing the urinal.

Dan,
I think your using the old 'slippery slope' fault in logic. One thing
doesn't necessarily lead to another. I can't imagine some great deluge
of cracked platters entering the marketplace until a platter without a
crack would become a rarity.
If this concept of imitation was true, we would all be making Voulkos
sculptures and $1000's of dollars! It has to be decided on an individual
basis and that alone.
