Any one in the Seattle area can pick up bauxite ore off the railroad tracks
at the Everett Washington waterfront. The Bauxite is in small two foot piles
at one rail-car distance from one another (piles stretch north for several
blocks: the ore drips out of the car hoppers when the train's cars are is
loaded at the dome).
I have used the ore in cone 6 glazes after grinding the granules into a
dusty power. The ore makes the surface of the glaze feel like paper; adding
more makes the "paper texture" rougher.
