In Mashiko, the split is 60/40 potter/gallery. Standard discount at
your studio or at the festival was 20%. I asked around. What you do
is split the wholesale price with the buyer.
Should the potter have to fully absorb the gallery/shop's markup?
I don't know.
Also, in Japan, if folks buy a bunch of stuff, you often give
them "service." An extra small pot as a thank you.
Unlike some potters at the festival, I never sold seconds. In
never had cheap 5 dollar bins on the ground either. I often sold
$300.00 platters and tsubo. We also sold many woodblock prints over
$125.00.
