I was wondering what book is people's favourite on this topic? I learnt mou=
ld making at college=2C and have made a few press moulds over the years=2C =
but I'd like to get a bit more advanced=2C and could do with something that=
deals with some of the complexities and/or troubleshooting tips.
Thanks!

Y'er right!

Robert, Ronald, Donald --- "Moldmaking for Ceramics is the best one out
there - though there are others that address moldmaking. But none get
into it like Friths book.

Amanda,

The #1 book on the subject for me is the book by Robert Frith,
"Moldmaking for Ceramic's". It's a hard one to even match, much less best.

My $0.02.

Dear amanda watson-will ,
There are two books I can suggest
David Cowley, ""Moulded and Slip Cast Pottery and Ceramics". Batsford
Craft Paperback. ISBN -7134-0972-X.
Gordon Wong and Philip Whitford, "Handmade Potter's Tools" ISBN
0-9733565-0-2. which has interesting notes on the preparation of
plaster.
Ivor Lewis.
Redhill,
South Australia.

Amanda, An excellent book on this, recently published by Lark
Books, is "The Essential Guide to Mold Making & Slip Casting" by
Andrew Martin.

Hey Amanda,

I have to say I'm in agreement with John. The book by Donald Frith is
excellent. If you are thinking of purchasing a book, the Frith book will provide
many solutions.

There are a few others out there. Some old and some new, and they all have
something different to offer. Truthfully I would recommend you try to read a
few if possible.

A case in point: there is a book out there, from the 50's I do believe,
called "Fine Ceramics" by/from Norton(?) that analyzes what we do, slip-casting
that is, from a commercial perspective. It has several chapters on
plaster/gypsum that provide INTERESTING information albeit not directly a "how to make
molds" kind of book.

take care
