I find that I break less kiln shelves in a raku kiln that has a door =3D
that opens on the side or top as opposed to lifting the entire kiln off =3D
of the base. That blast of outside temp air really breaks corderite =3D
kiln shelves. =3D20

My favorite style raku kilns have a door that opens on the side like a =3D
small college dorm frig. This keeps the heat in really well. So much =3D
so, that you have to put the second batch of pots on a small shelf =3D
pieces or fire bricks to keep the from breaking the minute you load them =
=3D
onto the shelf still in the kiln.
