Here is a little info for those of you who are building or buying =3D
burners for your gas kiln.

=3D20

Example" =3DBC " orifice (forced air natural gas) @ 4 Water column =3D
inches of pressure=3D3D 185 cubic feet of gas

=3D20

BTU rating of the gas. Example Wyoming natural gas is rated at 900 to =3D
1050 BTU, propane is different. Your gas company can tell you the BTU =3D
rating of the gas in your area

=3D20

185 (cubic feet of gas) X 900 (Btu rating of gas) =3D3D 166,500 BTU per =3D
burner =3D20

=3D20

A good rule of thumb is use 25,000-30,000 Btu's per cubic feet of your =3D
kiln. Example if you have a 40 cubic foot kiln you would need" =3D20

=3D20

25,000 BTU X 40 =3D3D 1,000,000 to fire your kiln

=3D20

If you plan on using 4 burners each burner needs to be capable of =3D
handling 250,000 BTU's =3D20

=3D20

A gas company can give the orifice X gas pressure ratings you need for =3D
your kiln.

The orfice size I use is a #49 drill size for propane using 0-4 pounds =3D
of pressure on the entire system.

I have use Pyronics natural draft burners. I have used them with =3D
natural gas and propane. They are a medium pressure burner. The burners =
=3D
are an elbow type burner. I was introduced to those burners by Dave =3D
Shaner in 1966. He used a straight version of that burner on his kiln =3D
at the Bray Foundation and at his studio in Big Fork, Montana. The =3D
burner I use is the 80 ET (elbow Type) medium pressure burner. I =3D
usually fire using 2 pounds of pressure on the whole burner system. The =
=3D
gas plumbing surrounds the kiln and there is one inlet. I use an =3D
adjustable regulator and leave the burner petcocks open. Each burner =3D
has the same pressure and all burners can be adjusted all at once using =3D
this method of plumbing.
