Dear Mel: Just read your funny kiln story and I'll see you and raise you 5.
A friend built a kiln and unknown to him and others had used a low
temperature brick for the floor/foundation. As the kiln was reaching
temperature Cone 9-10 he looked in the peep hole and announced "the Cones
are going down. I mean the cones are really going down." The shelves
,pots and cones were sinking into the pool that was once a brick floor.
If anyone ever thinks they may have trouble getting Cone 10 down just use
house brick for the floor.

well kids i've got one also .i had a fellow dating my daughter look at my
wheel and he decided to drain the transmission oil and started it not knowing
the quantity a nd asked for something quick to catch it.i handed him a large
lovely bow; from the finished wares shelves figuring it would clean up.well to
make a long story shorter it would not all come out so i thought well let's
put it in the next firing to burn it out.all went well thru body reduction
initiation then as i walked away from the kiln to the patio i heard a muffled
noise not unlike a volkswagon door close but i saw no such vehicle in sight so
i went to just check the kiln to be sure. i looked in the upper door peephole
but nothing was in sight went to the next ones same story finally i looked at
the bottom of the kiln ons and there was everything!!!!!SHELVES OF SILICON
CARBIDE, POSTS AND POTS !!!!!! the oil had exploded the walls were fine and
the bricked front door was ok the roof though had a few bricks off alignment
in the sprung arch.this was the first kiln i'd fired since all my shows were
cancelled for the fall and winter in south carolina due to hurricane hugo.that
can make one feel sick and really dumb!

BY THE WAY IS THE PRESENT ECONOMY HURTING OR HELPING EVERYONE'S MARLKET? There
is talk of deflation due to the asian economic troubles spilling over into our
economy, just wondering.
