Not all glaze ingredients/materials influence color. But
magnesium does, and zinc, which turns chrome to mud, benefits
copper blues.
I think it much worthwhile as a time and money saver to have and
consult a book such as Harry Fraser's "Glazes for teh Craft
Potter" and/or Robin Hopper's "The Ceramic Spectrum". You can
get these from the library, and take notes!
In my opinion, reference books can save one a lot of time,
heartache, and money...firing tests is not cheap.
