I was very lucky to get a grant from BYU this year to study ceramics in
Japan. I am headed to Japan in August from the 16th-29th, and am just
looking for suggestions for places that are pottery must-sees. I'll be
traveling with my husband (well, he's still my fiance, but he'll be my
husband by then) who is fluent in Japanese. He's spent over 2 and a half
years in Japan, so we'll have no problems with communication, navigating th=
e
transportation system, or those kind of things. But it's hard to narrow
down the must-see areas! I already have arrangements to visit the studio o=
f
one potter outside Kyoto for a few days, I have a list of musems to visit,
as well as a few gallery recommendations for an avid tea bowl collecter in
the Japanese department here at school. I'm also hoping to tour a few
University ceramics program, but if anyone has any suggestions as to
who/what just cannot be missed, I'd love the input. We're flying in and ou=
t
of Tokyo, and planning on going to Kyoto for sure, but other than that, we
are still forming plans. We're mostly planning on staying in the Honshu
region.
Any ideas would be very appreciated!! Thanks!
