Why is it when you are a few days from a show, have important pieces in th=
e
kiln, leave for just a few short hours and low and behold, you come home to
your kiln 'BEEPING" ERROR.
Yikes. So ok it read 1495F and hasn't climbed all the way to cone 6 yet. =
I
have no idea when the ERROR ocured? I was only gone for maybe 3 hours at
the very most. My kiln fires on automatic once I plug in my ramps.
I stopped it and re programed in my original program. It started to climb
right away and went from 1495F to 1600F normally? Looks like it is
functioning well and we must have had a power outage or something?
Do I need to worry that all my pieces are ruined? Or since I caught it and
it couldn't have dropped in temp too much? will my kiln pieces survive?
I usually do a slow cool and the ramp up to cone 6 is on the faster side?
So it hasn't begun to cool after temp? or at least not much? I am guessin=
g
it was about 1495-1800F for a short while?
Any experience with this one? Thanks........worrying that I ruined an
entire kiln load because I had to leave for a few hours :(

Only checking the results will tell, but
your cones will 'tell' you if the firing was
right. Given the short amount of time that
you were firing, it sounds like you just
had a brief power outage and the controller
let you know that -- but without losing
much of your existing temperature. =3D20
Those controllers are great, but they
have limited ability to tell you what
happened when something went wrong.

Mary, a friend of mine had the identical problem it would seem; Her skutt
kiln is in her windowless unvented garage in Florida. She came home to find
her kiln blinking ERROR and found it had shut down after it reached 1400+
degrees. Skutt told her the kilns are programed to shut off when the
circuitry box get too hot and advised her how to reset the shut off device
for our climate and advised her to cool the box with a small fan when firin=
g
and keep he garage door open! I hope all was well; I was told she lost her
pots. Lori Pierce in Orange Park, Florida.
